In a week-long, intelligence-driven crackdown, Indian security forces launched a series of coordinated counter-insurgency operations across multiple districts of Manipur, resulting in the arrest of 15 insurgents and a significant cache of arms and explosives.
From July 29 to August 4, units of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in close coordination with Manipur Police and other security agencies, carried out extensive joint operations in the districts of Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Defence’s PRO and spokesperson, the operations led to the apprehension of 15 active cadres affiliated with various valley and hill-based insurgent groups. A total of 69 weapons, 16 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, radio sets, large quantities of ammunition, and other war-like materials were recovered.
The seized items included looted service weapons and country-made arms, many of which were capable of inflicting mass casualties.
Major recoveries were made in high-risk and forested zones such as Dampi Ridge, Tollen, and K Geljang in Churachandpur district, as well as parts of Imphal East and West. Among those apprehended were self-styled leaders from banned outfits including KCP, PREPAK, KYKL, and UNLF-P, highlighting the depth of the operation.
The Ministry noted that these operations demonstrate the unwavering commitment of the security forces to restoring peace and preventing a resurgence of insurgent violence in the region.
